An Inviting Home Starts at the Front Door: 5 Ways to Improve your Entryway
Ever been to a home that feels immediately welcoming? It strikes you while driving past or on the approach – you don’t even need to cross the threshold to feel like an important guest. What is it that makes certain homes just feel more inviting? Home remodeling experts and interior designers know that it’s a feeling that starts from the outside in. “It all starts with the front door”, says interior designer, Alison Friedricks, owner of Westchester County based design firm, Friedricks Interiors. “People are very aware of front doors that look dated. If your door screams 1960’s, it’s time to update”.
When thinking of updating your entryway, think of clean, fresh, simple, and bright. Allison explains, “People want the feeling of invite as you approach a home.” The trend in exteriors today, Friedricks explains, is for a neutral exterior – cream, beige, greige, bisque. She advises clients to make neutral colors pop with a splash of color on the front door. Try a red or navy door with iron hardware. Silver and brass are OUT, iron is IN.
Another important element highlighted by Friedricks is to keep your entry light and bright. The current trend with windows suggests bigger is better. Create a seamless transition from the outside in with additional light around your door; windows brighten up your entryway.
We at Major Homes believe a well-designed front door can offer a glimpse of what lies within; a well-constructed door will continue to make the right first impression for years to come. Our team has the years of necessary experience with design, construction, and installation to know what works and, more importantly, how it will fit into your home. We offer free, in-home estimates to evaluate your door replacement needs.
If your door is always open to friends and family, make sure it looks as inviting as possible.
And once the work is done, don’t forget to throw a summer barbeque so guests can admire the work you’ve put into your new entryway.
